Families in Nigeria's north-central Niger State are continuing to demand action over the abduction of hundreds of people who remain missing more than a month after coordinated attacks.
Residents from Dekara and neighbouring communities protested in New Bussa, saying hundreds of people—mostly women, children and elderly residents—were taken during attacks on August 21. Local estimates put the number of missing people at around 600, while some community accounts have put the figure even higher.
President Tinubu ordered security agencies to launch a rescue operation following the attacks, but the captives have yet to be located.
The situation is also disrupting normal life in the affected communities, with residents reporting difficulties accessing markets and healthcare.
For the families involved, the passage of time has become another source of anguish.
