Sudan's economic crisis is deepening as the country's currency loses value and basic goods become increasingly difficult for ordinary families to afford.
Reuters reports that the Sudanese pound has lost almost half its value in army-controlled areas since the beginning of summer. The currency was trading around 7,500 pounds to the US dollar on the black market, compared with roughly 4,100 in May.
The economic collapse comes after more than three years of war between Sudan's armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
Markets have been disrupted, supply chains damaged and millions displaced.
The currency crisis is now making recovery even more difficult.
Even if fighting decreases, rebuilding an economy damaged by years of conflict will require enormous investment.
