Call Grows for Global Support as Nigerian-American Victoria Oluwakotanmi Takes Peace Message to Miss Grand International
A fresh call has gone out to Nigerians, Africans and members of the global diaspora to support Victoria Oluwakotanmi, the Nigerian-American representing the United States in the Miss Grand International 2026 competition.
The appeal was made by Princess Grace Iye Adejoh, a former governorship aspirant and women’s leader, who believes Oluwakotanmi's participation provides an opportunity to showcase Nigerian heritage while drawing international attention to the importance of peace and unity.
Speaking in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja, Adejoh said Oluwakotanmi's background and experiences place her in a distinctive position to connect people from different cultures.
She described the contestant as someone whose journey extends beyond the pageant itself, pointing to her professional, academic, artistic and community-service activities.
Oluwakotanmi is a U.S. military Logistics Specialist and a Chemical Engineering student. She is also a trained singer and pianist, an entrepreneur and the founder of a nonprofit initiative focused on supporting young people through scholarships, mentorship and leadership opportunities.
For Adejoh, these different aspects of Oluwakotanmi's life demonstrate how service, education, creativity and social responsibility can come together to create a wider platform for positive change.
She said the contestant's Nigerian heritage also gives her an opportunity to introduce aspects of Nigeria's culture and identity to audiences beyond Africa.
A Platform for Peace
A major part of the campaign surrounding Oluwakotanmi is her advocacy for peace.
Adejoh said that with conflicts and social divisions continuing to affect communities in different parts of the world, public figures have an important role to play in encouraging dialogue, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
She questioned the idea that peace should be viewed through the lens of nationality, race, religion or geographical boundaries.
“Peace should not be limited by borders. Compassion should not be determined by nationality,” she said, stressing that the desire for people to live without fear and violence is a universal concern.
According to Adejoh, Oluwakotanmi's Nigerian-American identity could allow her to communicate with audiences across continents and demonstrate how different cultural experiences can coexist and create meaningful connections.
Appeal to Nigerians and the Diaspora
The women’s leader is now encouraging individuals, community groups, businesses, philanthropists and organisations to get behind Oluwakotanmi during her Miss Grand journey.
She urged supporters not only to vote, but also to follow the contestant's activities, engage with her social media content and share her message with wider audiences.
Adejoh believes that the campaign can become a broader celebration of Nigerian identity and the contribution of Nigerians and Nigerian-Americans on international platforms.
