Traditional rulers, historians, academics and cultural stakeholders have renewed calls for stronger efforts to protect Yoruba history, language and cultural traditions.
The discussion took place during the 140th Kiriji War Legacy event at the University of Ibadan, commemorating the 1886 peace agreement that ended the prolonged Yoruba civil conflict.
The event highlighted the historical importance of dialogue and reconciliation while also raising concerns about cultural erosion.
Language was a particularly important theme.
As younger generations increasingly live in urban and international environments, cultural institutions face the challenge of keeping indigenous languages and traditions relevant.
