US Completes Iraq Withdrawal as New Security Questions Emerge
The United States has completed its military withdrawal from Iraq, ending a 23-year military presence that began with the 2003 invasion.
The withdrawal comes as the Middle East remains unstable and Iran-backed groups retain influence in Iraq.
The US presence in Iraq resulted in more than 4,500 American military deaths, while the broader war and its aftermath caused enormous civilian suffering.
The departure now places greater responsibility on Iraqi security institutions.
There are also concerns about whether armed groups linked to Iran could gain additional influence.
