Welcome to Dreads Media – your trusted source for the latest news, travel, music, entertainment, arts, culture, lifestyle, business, and events from around the world. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

September 11 is one of the most consequential dates in modern history.

🇺🇸 2001 — The September 11 attacks

Twenty-five years ago today, hijacked aircraft struck the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, while United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed.

Today, the United States is holding nationwide commemorations marking the 25th anniversary.

The attacks transformed American foreign policy, international security and global perceptions of terrorism.

They also had profound social consequences, including increased anti-Muslim discrimination and long-term health problems among first responders and survivors.

🇨🇱 1973 — Chile's military coup

On September 11, 1973, Chile's armed forces overthrew President Salvador Allende, ending his government.

Allende died during the assault on the presidential palace, and General Augusto Pinochet subsequently established a dictatorship that lasted for 17 years.

🇪🇹 1897 — The Kingdom of Kaffa falls

In African history, September 11 is associated with Emperor Menelik II's capture of Gaki Sherocho, the last king of the Kingdom of Kaffa in present-day Ethiopia.

Why history matters

September 11 demonstrates how a single date can contain completely different stories of political power, conflict, culture and human loss.

History Desk: History is not simply what happened yesterday.

It is the context in which today's world exists. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
