MKO: The Film Bringing Nigeria's June 12 Story Back to the Big Screen
A major Nigerian documentary is preparing to bring one of the country's most important political chapters to cinema audiences.
MKO, directed by Ose Oyamendan, tells the story of Moshood Abiola and the events surrounding the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
The documentary incorporates archival material and interviews with prominent figures connected to the period, including former military leaders and prominent Nigerian voices.
Its October 1 premiere is particularly significant because it coincides with Nigeria's Independence Day.
The film will then enter commercial cinemas nationwide from October 2.
For younger Nigerians who did not experience the political crisis of the 1990s, the documentary provides an opportunity to encounter that period through film.
